International Sports Scholarship Programme

New Scholarships for students from England, Northern Ireland or Wales starting undergraduate degree courses in 2012. Learn  more

The University of Stirling provides the ideal environment for talented athletes to develop and flourish in their chosen sport, providing expert support and a comprehensive collection of world-class facilities set on our scenic campus.

Our International Sports Scholarship Programme is one of the largest high performance sports programmes in the UK and has supported more than 700 student athletes since its inception in 1981, sending athletes to Olympic, World and Commonwealth Games.

Recruiting winners and then encouraging them to fulfil their potential, the programme is based on five core sports while talented athletes in other sports competing at international levels may also be considered.

Scholarships offer academic flexibility to help combine study and high performance sport as well as national standard coaching, funding of training and competition costs, supply of essential equipment and a place in a University residence.

    Scholarship selection

To be considered for a scholarship, applicants must meet the normal study entry requirements for their preferred degree and hold, or be in the process of applying for, a place on a degree programme.

They must also hold a profile in international sports competition at junior level or beyond and have the appropriate work ethic and commit to improve in their chosen sport.
